Most of what you see in John Shakespeare’s portfolio is 3D. So every now and then we like to put a spotlight on the political cartoons he does on a daily basis.
The pencils and final artwork you see below were run next to an article on this year’s budget and how Gillard and Swan intend to allocate resources. Most caricatures shine a harsh light on the incompetence of our politicians which is arguably easier than putting a positive light on the subject. It is testament to John’s kind nature that he can create something humourous with positive traits without having to always resort to cheap shots. In this case John depicts Gillard using the tools of budget benefits to assist small businesses such as tradespeople and small business shown as her willingness to roll up her sleeves and get amongst it.
